Let’s Get to Know Uptown
Hey Friends,
We are starting something fun for the summer! Each week we are going to post a event on facebook for you to share with your friends! We are going to meet up with other parents and kids in a variety of locations around Uptown (East Hills, Wealthy Street, East Fulton and Eastown). The places will all be kid friendly and will provide an opportunity for you to meet other parents and kids and build a community of like minded people. To top it off…WE WILL BE GIVING AWAY ONE PRIZE at every event!
Our First Uptown Giveaway Event:

Fulton Street Farmers Market at the front of the Market near Fulton Street.
We will all gather together, do introductions and then pick a winner! We encourage you to explore the market together and share in the wonder of our bountiful market with your children and new friends!
This week’s giveaway is a “Let’s Go to the Farmers Market” set which includes a reusable ‘strawberry’ shopping bag, a book, activity cards and shopping lists! A $14.99 value and SOOOO cute, kids will LOVE having their own market shopping bag!

We are so excited to be able to offer this service to you. Whether you want to take a carrier out for a spin before you buy it or are taking a vacation and need a carrier, this program is for you! Check out the details below:
- Free Demo Day-one baby carrier may be borrowed for use during the day during open store hours. The carrier must be returned by closing time on the day borrowed, or your credit card will be charged the one week rental fee.
- One week (7 day) rental
- Non-refundable rental fee is taken at time of rental.
- Should you decided to purchase a baby carrier, half of the rental fee will be credited toward your purchase.
- Credit card will be kept on file until baby carrier is returned. Your card will be charged the full cost of the carrier if it is not returned within 24 hours of this expiration of the rental agreement.
- DO NOT WASH-we wash the carriers according to manufacturers instructions between each rental. Should you wash our rental carrier and any damage occur, you will be responsible for the replacement cost of the carrier.
- Rental Carriers must be picked up at Hop Scotch so that we can provide a demonstration and instructions before use. We do not mail carriers.
- Call for availability or to be added to the waiting list.

Getting crafty…
Today I bought all of this wool felt from Hilary, former owner of Lillybean Felt Food. In case you hadn’t heard, Hilary decided to close her business and concentrate on finishing her degree in Special Ed. While we are sad that we will no longer be able to sell her amazing felt food, we are overjoyed that she was kind enough to offer all her felt to us!
So today I sit here contemplating what fun things we can make with all this felt! So many ideas…..we will be getting crafty around here this week! I have visions of gnome forests, finger puppets, bags and bracelets, baby booties and more.
What would you make? Are you up to a challenge? We will give you one 12x18 sheet of felt or two 9x12 sheets or six 6x6 sheets. We challenge you to take it home and GET CREATIVE! You can sew it and embellish it in any way you like, just make sure you do it by MAY 30TH. Bring your creation in, along with a small card with your name and any statement you would like about your piece. We will take pictures of each to show on the blog and we will display them for the month of June for inspiration! Everyone who brings in a creation will be entered in a drawing to win a $50 gift certificate to Hop Scotch!
So get up off that couch and get creative!

Have you ever dropped a glass bowl?
Well, I know I have! And my kids have even busted a few cups, but honestly, not that many and at 16 years and 7 years of age they’ve had plenty of opportunity! As soon as we suggest combining glass dishes with kids most parents have visions of broken dishes, blood, the emergency room….but I can honestly say my kids have never even gotten a cut from breaking a dish. In fact, almost all of my glass dishes are 14 or more years old! I can’t say that about any plastic that I ever owned.
So, wipe the crazy visions from your mind and think about this logically.
- Glass lasts longer, especially if you wash in a dishwasher which is hard on plastic.
- Glass doesn’t harbor bacteria or leach chemicals
- Children break far fewer dishes then we think, you will be the one who breaks them!
- By allowing children to use glass, we end up teaching them how to be more careful with things. A important skill that takes practice.
- Glass is beautiful, and consciously or unconsciously we enjoy beautiful things and it makes our food look more appealing.

Back in Action..the blog that is.
I am going to try to make a real attempt to use this blog. With so many social media outlets it can be overwhelming and time consuming, but I have committed to working smarter and not harder! So, to that end I am going to make one more attempt to use this blog and then use blog posts to populate facebook and the newsletter. I this way I hope to make less work and more consistent updates.
So, wish me luck and keep posted!

We love this bookshelf.
Everyone loves this bookshelf.
But it is not fitting into our plans at the new store. That is why we have decided to put it up for bid.

Our new storefront! 909 Cherry St., starting June 3rd.
We are soooo excited about this new space and we can’t wait to share it with all of our wonderful customers. We have so many plans for the event area (like childbirth classes) and think you will really appreciate the bathroom in the store and the easier to monitor doors. This space has a lot of history and a lot of character.
